Protestors and tourists
I love living in the nation's capital. Really I do. Nothing like sharing the metro in 90 degree weather with screaming kids, political protesters, people with failing deoderant and the regular crush of rush hour commuters. No wonder mass transportation has never really caught on in the United States. I think moose has it right by taking his bike to work. I gotta look into that.

What, you don't love the unwashed masses? ;-)

The bike is much more satisfying. Exercise and the commute in one, and from where I live to where I work I get to go through Rock Creek Park and then across the Mall before I get to my building - very little traffic to commute through (just runners and other cyclists).

How are you feeling today?

Are you still a little down? If so, I know a little about depression. I had it for over 15 years without knowing it. Ouch!

If this is a medical situation, then stop reading.

You said that you almost never experience depression. Well, then, something in your life did not go your way. Something that you expected or wanted really bad didn't happen. Now, you are feeling jealousy or disappointment or anger during this grieving process. Depression is anger turned inward. Depression is anger internalized and bottled up without any way of expressing it. Your consciousness is kind of sorting out what the hell happened, what went wrong and what you are going to do now. Almost like picking up the pieces after a bomb exploded.
Bad times don't last forever. Unless it is a medical condition which requires professional medical attention.

Thanks so much! I'm feeling much better and don't think the problem was medical. I think the problem is centered on my paralyzing low self-esteem. And, as we all know, sometimes you have to get pretty close to rock bottom to see how low you've sank. But you nailed it right on the head.
